WREXHAM communications company Moneypenny is holding a ‘Green Christmas Jumper Day’ on December 10.
This takes the form of a second-hand Christmas jumper sale in which staff will be encouraged to bring in their old Christmas jumpers and buy a new one, helping each other, and the environment.
A total of 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by clothing and footwear production each year, and Moneypenny’s goal is to reduce the amount of new item purchases made by its team this year, and promote a culture of buying second hand, re-using and reducing waste.
All money raised from the sale will go towards the Save the Children Fund.
Joanna Swash, CEO of Moneypenny, said: “This is our second annual Christmas jumper day, but the difference this year is that staff will be encouraged to bring, buy and be merry! We are all guilty of over-buying, especially novelty items like Christmas jumpers, so this way we get to recycle those jumpers among our colleagues and take home a new one.”
Other Christmas festivities at Moneypenny include a fantastic Christmas dinner, mince pies, and carols, and the building is already sporting Christmas lights to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
This Green Christmas Jumper Day follows on from another jumper-themed day held at Moneypenny’s HQ on November 26 - Green Jumper Day - where heating across their HQ was lowered by 1 degree for the day, to help contribute to a national dip in energy usage.
These small efforts to reduce energy consumption are part of a company-wide initiative which will see Moneypenny making more eco-conscious decisions and changes, leading towards an increasingly sustainable business model, with a lower carbon footprint.
