WREXHAM has been named one of the best places for children to enjoy Christmas this year.

New data has revealed the very best cities (and large towns) in the UK for child friendly Christmas celebrations this year, with York, Edinburgh, Wrexham and Oxford ranking as the top four.

The new study by OVO Network has looked at the access families have to toy shops, sweet shops, child-friendly attractions, Santa’s Grottos and the likelihood of festive weather to find the best places for festive celebrations in 2021.

York took the top spot with more than over 30 child friendly attractions per 10,000 kids available during the festive period for families to get involved with and the city has over four sweet shops and five toy shops per 10,000 children in the area - both considerably above the national average.

York’s average temperature in December time - 0.9c - also makes it an optimum place for snow to fall too.

Oxford and Wrexham make up the top three with a joint third place ranking.

Although Oxford has considerably more child-friendly attractions compared to the UK average (20 per 10,000 children versus 11 around the UK) the southern city is unlikely to see a white festive period this year with some of the warmest December temperatures, historically.

Although snow is more likely in Wrexham, the access to child-friendly things to do is lacking compared to other cities in the top three and top five.
