North Wales Police say that they had an excellent turnout for their "light up" vigil across North Wales.

The vigils took place in Bangor, Rhyl and Wrexham yesterday evening (Thursday, November 25) in support of White Ribbon Day - a global movement to end male violence against women. Members of the public and officers came together to show their support and held a two minute's silence.

They gathered to remember all the victims of violence against women including Sarah Everard, who was kidnapped and murdered whilst walking home in South London in March this year. A minute's silence was held in memory of her, and all the other victims whose lives have been taken as a result of violence against women.

Sgt Claire McGrady who attended the Wrexham vigil said: "We came together (on Thursday) to show solidarity against perpetrators of domestic abuse and in support and memory of the victims who have sadly been taken from us. We, as a police force do not condone these actions and will do everything we can to raise awareness of domestic abuse and make it stop."

The #CheerNotFear campaign was also lunched to raise awareness of domestic abuse over the Christmas holidays as sadly, cases rise significantly during this period.

Follow the North Wales Police's Facebook page over the next 16 days for information about different forms of domestic abuse, signs to look out for in both victims and perpetrators, who can help and how to report cases to them.
