The supermarkets are brimming with festive goodies and Christmas ads are well underway on our TVs.

'Tis the season to be jolly but that isn't always the case. For many families they're facing quite the opposite.

This is where North Wales Superkids come in.

The charity runs several projects across the region but they're main one each year is the Christmas toy appeal.

As a result of toy and money donations, Superkids help make sure some of those in real need get to feel some of the magic of the season.

Run by founder and trustee Margaret Williams MBE, the charity last year met every one of the 2,250 referrals from agencies across North Wales.

Margaret expects this year's total referrals to be even higher.

Following on from last year's support of the charity, Wrexham AFC are again doing what they can to help the team at the Superkids' grotto meet the rising demand.

It may have been the club's high profile owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, taking centre stage recently but keeping momentum going for the toy appeal remains paramount for the force behind the club's support.

Kerry Evans, official disability liaison officer at Wrexham AFC, is passionate about what Superkids stands for.

She said: "I had started looking into whether there was any way we could get out there and help towards Christmas for people.

"My research led me to Superkids, and they really struck a chord with me straight away.

"The fact that you are helping families in complete dire need.

"And they're referred to the charity through social services, doctors, schools etc, so you know these gifts are going where they need to go.

"Without Superkids, come Christmas morning, these families would literally have nothing.

"Every fan, every member of the community can resonate with that. Any one of us could be in that situation, and that's the point."

And it was the generosity of fans that saw Kerry end up making several trips to the grotto with donations.

She added: "These children have got nothing. I've promised Margaret that as long as I'm at the club, we will always be supporting her in the toy appeal.

"You can only imagine a young child going back into school after Christmas that hasn't had anything.

"What Margaret is doing is making sure that doesn't happen.

"When you hear the difference they're making to the families, it's a no brainer.

"I'm proud and honoured to be able to help.

"We did so well last year, we collected about 2,300 gifts in total.

"I'm now hoping with Ryan and Rob's recent visit, that support will be even bigger this year."
