WREXHAM'S newest Councillor says he is 'absolutely honoured' to have been elected to his new role.

A by-election was held for the Gresford ward following the resignation of Councillor Andrew Atkinson in August.

Last night (Thursday, October 28), the results of the Gresford by-election were announced and it was revealed that Cllr Jeremy Kent would be the ward's new representative.

In a statement, the Welsh Conservative Cllr said: "I’m absolutely honoured to have been elected as the next County Councillor for Gresford.

"I’d like to thank everyone who placed their trust in me at the ballot box today. The hard work starts now - I’m looking forward to working hard for all residents.

"I’d like to say thanks and well done to all candidates on a well fought campaign."

Welcoming the news, Conservative MP for Wrexham Sarah Atherton added: "Congratulations Jeremy your success in the Gresford by-election.

"I am looking forward to working together - as I do with all my councillors - on matters that are important to our residents."
