A TEAM of dedicated knitters from across the country are set to help a Flintshire post office prepare for this year's Remembrance Day.

The post office on Church Street, Flint, is set to receive a wonderfully hand-crafted display to help commemorate the annual occasion.

Local resident Nathan Griffiths says he put an appeal out on Facebook to help decorate the postbox at the site with a topper.

As such, he has received various designs for the topper, including a spitfire, soldier, RAF and sailor knitted characters, as well as a knitted pigeon, dog and a horse.

It will be placed at the main post office in Church Street.

Nathan also carried out a similar appeal when his cousin, Taekwondo star Jade Jones, competed in the Olympic Games back in July.

He said: "I put an appeal out on Facebook asking for knitters to help me design a topper. So the characters have been knitted from all over the country. I did one for my cousin Jade Jones when she was fighting in the Olympics this year and it was lovely seeing all the children going down and having there pictures taken with it.

"The topper is to remember and honour our service men and women and animals such as horses, pigeons and dogs that played there part in the wars.

"It will have also a little written description on what Remembrance Day is for and also what animals played a part in the war. I hope this will help educate the youngsters of today."

The postbox topper will be in place from November 10 and will stay there for five days.
