Calan Gaeaf Hapus! Happy Halloween!

Looking to get into the Halloween spirit with a spooky spine tingling book? Look no further: we've got your Halloween reads covered!

Whether you're a fan of crime fiction, traditional ghost stories, horror, or psychological thrillers, you are sure to find the perfect Halloween book or audiobook for you amongst our list of reading recommendations:

Starting with a couple of classics: The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. These staple classics are perfect choices for dark autumnal nights by the fire.

For a ghost story dripping with gothic suspense, you can't go wrong with The Lost Ones by Anita Frank and The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill. We would also recommend Susan Hill's other ghost stories such as The Woman in Black and The Small Hand, but only for readers who are feeling particularly brave this Halloween!

If you're looking for some historical fiction that has had the critics raving madly, we recommend: Triflers Need Not Apply by Camilla Bruce and The Manningtree Witches by A.K. Blakemore. Both of these titles are based on the lives of historical figures, whether it be a group of condemned women in The Manningtree Witches, or the scorned murderer Bella Sorensen in Triflers Need Not Apply: perfect choices for fans of Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace (another gruesome tale!).

Our next two recommendations have been enjoyed on the big screen as adaptations by the 'king' of contemporary horror writing: you guessed it – Stephen King! We recommend The Shining and Carrie – read at your peril!

If a page-turning psychological thriller sounds right up your street, why not try: Madam by Phoebe Wynne and The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. Both of these recently published titles are set within grand educational institutions, blending together a hauntingly gothic past with an even scarier present.

And lastly, for fans of crime fiction, we recommend: Rules for Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. Who doesn't love a classic murder mystery? Both of these books are an inventive homage to the crime fiction genre that keep their readers guessing right up to the very last page.
