A WREXHAM woman has raised over £2,700 by completing a mammoth walking task after her dad was given a devastating cancer diagnoses.

Eva Jones, from Chirk, has walked 50 miles this month with her dog, Bertie, to raise funds and awareness of a charity very close to her family's heart.

The Leader:

Her dad William, from Llangollen, has recently been diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma - a rare cancer affecting the bile ducts which isn't usually detected until the later stages.

And the 59-year-old former Navy officer and firefighter has been given a devastating prognosis of a year to live - due to the inoperable nature of the cancer, which affects roughly 2,000 people a year.

The whopping £2,750 that Eva has raised is going to the AMMF charity which is dedicated to raising money to research bile duct cancers.

The Leader:

Eva said: "This has been difficult for myself and my family to come to terms with, but we are trying to remain positive and think of something I can do myself to support those needed.

"AMMF is actually the only charity in the UK that specifically targets Cholangiocarcinoma primarily, which involves developing research for an earlier diagnosis whilst also raising awareness and support for those needed.

"I am so grateful to everyone who has donated and shown their love for myself, my dad and AMMF. My dad is the strongest person I know, which motivates me to continue to raise awareness and support for others like him."

The Leader:

She added: "It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but I am so proud of my dad, who has stayed positive throughout every single thing that has been thrown at him.

"Cancer will not get the best of us."
