STAFF at Dynamic Wrexham would love to spend the Airbus Community Awards funding on a special piece of kit to help children and young people with disabilities to communicate more easily.

The Dynamic Centre for Children and Young People with Disabilities is one of the ten finalists in this years’s Airbus and The Leader Community Awards.

As a finalist the group has already won £1,000 but it is now up to Leader readers to vote for who they want to win the top prize of £7,000.

The group trialled a touch table over the summer and it proved incredibly popular, offering inclusive access to games and programmes for children and young people. The charity has now set its sights on buying a touch table if it wins £7,000.

Dynamic Wrexham, based on Salisbury Road, offers a welcoming and fun place for children and young people aged eight to 19 and with disabilities to hang out and make and meet friends after school or during school holidays. The centre also gives parents and carers a much-needed break.

The charity, which is currently supporting around 120 children and young people from across Wrexham, also supports young people in making the transition to adulthood.

Children and young people visit fortnightly, with meet ups taking place daily apart from on Sunday. The charity is so popular that there is currently a waiting list.

When told that Dynamic had made it through to the short list, centre manager Laura Williams said: “Wow! That has just made my day. We are absolutely thrilled!

“We are the only out of school activity centre in Wrexham who provide support to children and young people with all manner of disabilities and life limiting illnesses.

“Dynamic is about having fun while developing skills. The centre is full of laughter. It’s like a ‘youth club’ experience for children and young people.

“For a lot of our young people, communication is difficult and some of our children communicate in different ways. A touch table opens up their world really and it was a huge hit with all the young people when we trialled it over the summer.

“We’d love something like that here. It would make a huge difference to the experiences of the young people who access our services. It’s something that we could never afford to purchase ourselves at over £7,000.

“We’d welcome the opportunity for Leader readers to vote and potentially help us along the way.”

Voting slips will be printed in the Leader for the next few weeks and you can also vote online at https://www.quiz-maker.com/poll3877309xE1354ABf-122.
