WREXHAM'S MP is 'making a stand' by quitting social media site Twitter.
Sarah Atherton MP says the abuse faced by female politicians and public figures 'is not acceptable'.
She has decided to quit the platform and described Twitter's 'lack of action' over tackling such issues as 'concerning'.
Sarah Atherton MP said: "The issue of abuse and harassment of female politicians and public figures - largely from anonymous accounts - on Twitter has to stop.
"Scrutiny is acceptable and expected, but abuse on the level that I, and many others receive, is not acceptable.
"If the harassment and abuse that I have received had taken place physically, rather than virtually, action would have been taken. However, on Twitter similar action is never swift. This is why I have decided to quit the platform and make a stand."
She added: "More widely, from a public safety perspective, Twitter’s lack of action is concerning.
"When Twitter has stepped up and addressed the problems with the platform, I might contemplate returning. For the time being, however, I will be off."
