Piranesi: Winner of the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction

Last week, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke was announced as the winner of the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction. All of us here at Aura Libraries were delighted to hear of the success of Piranesi: it is truly a worthy winner. One of the book’s best qualities lies in the fact that it is so difficult to describe without spoiling it for other readers! Without giving too much away, we would describe Piranesi as a dream-like fantasy tale with a narrative voice that you can’t help but fall in love with and root for. The writing style is captivating from the very first paragraph: we would definitely give this title an Aura Book Score of 5/5!

Piranesi, along with other titles by Susanna Clarke - such as her first novel, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell - is available to borrow from your local Aura library.

Singing for the Brain

We are delighted to be hosting a Singing for the Brain session at Mold Library on Thursday, September 16, from 10.30am-noon. Singing for the Brain brings people affected by dementia together to sing a variety of songs they know and love, in a fun and friendly environment.

The group is run by Home Instead in association with Alzheimer's Society and Dementia Friendly Mold. The friendly social and support group will be holding sessions at Mold Library on the third Thursday of every month.

The group is completely free to attend and is open to residents of Flintshire living with dementia and their carers.

Babies and Books sessions

For the past few months, we have been sharing video sessions every Friday morning on our Facebook and YouTube pages called ‘Babies and Books’. These sessions have been all about lap time bonding with your baby and sharing books and rhymes, aimed at babies aged 0-18months. In recent weeks, we have been delighted to host Babies and Books sessions in person at Mold Library, and will be continuing these sessions every Friday at 10am and 11am. There are also weekly sessions at Holywell Library every Wednesday from 2.30pm-3pm. The sessions will include extra special Bookstart resources which you will be able to order through our Select & Collect Service.

We also have the Bookstart packs available from Book Trust Cymru for you to order. These are specially created book bags for you to keep and treasure and share with your child. Baby packs are for babies aged 0-12 months and Early Years packs for children aged 18-36 months are available to order and collect from your local Aura library as part of a Select and Collect order. If you would like to order a pack, we will just need to know your name, which pack you would like to order and your preferred collection point.

If you would like more information, or would like to book a place at one of our Babies and Books sessions, please contact the library on 01352 703780.
