AN INDUSTRIAL cleaner was captor sprayed by police after his "aggressive" behaviour became of concern, a court heard.

Callum McCubbin, of Chester Street in Wrexham, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Friday.

The 31-year-old admitted that on July 10 at Queens Square, he used threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said that shortly after midnight on the day in question, officers were called to an incident in Wrexham.

When they arrived they found McCubbin "squaring up and being aggressive" to another male.

He went to move away, but then walked towards one of the officers in an "aggressive manner."

McCubbin's belt was undone and was swinging by his leg.

The officer was concerned he could use it as a weapon and decided to captor spray him.

Melissa Griffiths, defending, said: "Mr McCubbin has lived in the Wrexham area for eight years and since coming here he has worked consistently in a variety of jobs - predominantly as an industrial cleaner.

"He and his wide had been to a friend's house on the day back in July and Mr McCubbin had a fair bit to drink.

"They came back and his recollection of what took place is sadly very hazy.

"He is aware of what is alleged against him and he doesn't take issue with that.

"He feels very ashamed of himself and his wife is clearly not impressed with his behaviour at all.

"Since July 10, he's not taken any alcohol at all."

The court handed McCubbin a fine of £375 and ordered him to pay £85 costs, as well as a £38 victim surcharge.
