EAGER runners lined up for the return of a popular Wrexham half marathon.

The Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon returned over the weekend after a two year break and it was back bigger and better.

Back in 2020, stormy conditions forced the event to cancel but the coronavirus hit and organisers were unsure when the next event would be.

But on Sunday, dozens of runners returned to the starting line for the popular event.

Taking first place for the first male finisher was Matt Clowes of Cardiff Athletics and first female finisher was Emma Taylor of City of Stoke Athletics Club.

A spokesman said on social media: "Massive well done to everyone who came out today and took on our Half Marathon in very challenging conditions.

"Huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Our main sponsor the Village Bakery, Spark Medical, Niftyentries.com, Mick Hall photos.

"And finally thanks to all our amazing marshals and volunteers, brilliant as ever."

The regular date is back for February 2022 with organisers promising a 'special offer' for those looking to grab a place.
