A WREXHAM primary school split over two sites is set for £3.9 million worth of improvements to allow it to merge into one.

As part of the 21st century Schools programme, the funds will be spent on improving the Ysgol Yr Hafod in Johnstown, enabling infants and juniors to be educated in the same location.

The school is currently split into two locations, the infants (Foundation Phase) based at a site on Melyd Avenue and juniors (Key Stage 2) at Bangor Road.

It is the Bangor Road site that is undergoing the work to allow infants to move into it.

An opportunity to view the exciting plans for the school and the chance to ask questions will be available on Wednesday, September 8 at 6pm at the Bangor Road school site.

Wrexham Council's Lead Member for Education, Councillor Phil Wynn, said: “As part of our ongoing commitment to our young students, it’s great to be able to announce this project after securing funding from the Welsh Government 21st Century schools programme."

Local councillor and chair of governors at Ysgol Yr Hafod, Councillor David A Bithell, said: “This is really exciting news for Ysgol Yr Hafod in terms of securing substantial funding in Johnstown.

"This will allow all age groups to be taught on the same site will and mean that the school will become a hub of learning for the area and improve education facilities for children."
