Wrexham libraries to open for all, plus Agatha Christie fun

From Monday, September 6, 2021, all of Wrexham Public Libraries will be open for all, please visit https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/your-local-library for the opening hours.

You will no longer have to make an appointment to visit. Libraries will be open for browsing, in addition to the return of books and the order and collect service.

We will no longer be quarantining returned stock, so you should notice both an increase in the amount of stock immediately available, and that your library account is updated on the same day.

It is a legal requirement for you to wear a face covering in public buildings including libraries. Staff will continue to wear face coverings for your safety. Hand sanitiser will be available near the library entrance, and you must to continue to use it on arrival.

Screens will remain in place at counter areas and where staff are located. We will have QR Codes available at each library for you to register your presence on Test and Trace, and if you are not able to use these, you will be able to leave your details at the library.

Details left at the library will be destroyed after 21 days. You will be able to use the photocopier; but due to the need to upgrade the Public Access Computers infrastructure our computer service is currently not available. Some libraries are able to offer working space for customers who wish to study or bring their own devices to use the Wi-Fi facilities, there is no need to book this space in advance.

Meeting rooms will be available to hire, subject to a risk assessment – please contact your local library direct for more information. All loans have been extended and fines will not be charged for late returns, so please do not worry if you have books at home, please continue to enjoy them. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Classic books

The author of almost 100 books and the creator of Jeeves and Blandings Castle to name a few, P.G. Wodehouse was born in 1881 and educated at Dulwich College. After two years with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank he became a full-time writer, contributing to a variety of periodicals including Punch and the Globe. As well as his novels and short stories, he wrote lyrics for musical comedies with Guy Bolton and Jerome Kern, and at one time had five musicals running simultaneously on Broadway. His time in Hollywood also provided much source material for fiction. At the age of 93, in the New Year's Honours List of 1975, he received a long-overdue knighthood, only to die on St Valentine's Day some 45 days later. You can borrow many of P.G. Wodehouse's books from Wrexham Library.

The Summer Reading Challenge for children

There is still time to join our Summer Reading Challenge – Wild World Heroes! Pack your bags and join us in Wilderville, a pretty cool place, where there's lots of things Wild World Heroes can do to make their town even better for the people and animals who live there. Head over to your local library to collect your packs, reads a minimum of two books over three visits to the library to collect your rewards. This year we have stickers a certificate and the coolest bag ever as your reward for completing the scheme!

Back to school

It's that time of year again when children go back to school. To help them on their way Cefn Mawr Library have some great titles to help them prepare for the new term. Titles include The Great Big Brain Book by Mary Hoffman and Ros Asquith, Population and Settlement, Why Can't Penguins Fly and Other Questions About Animals, 10 Stori o Hanes Cymru by Ifan Morgan Jones and Mae Ein Ty Ni a'r Dan to name a few.
