MS for Delyn

I want to start this week’s Leader Column by congratulating GCSE students across Delyn for a fantastic set of results once again. This year’s cohort have now faced two years of uncertainty – and have worked hard throughout with resilience and strength. I wish them all every success in the future.

Keen to make the most of the Senedd summer recess, I have spent the past week in communities speaking to constituents and businesses as part of my ‘Transport Survey’. From Mold Market to Flint High Street, Northop Hall to Greenfield – the survey took me across the constituency and I’ve enjoyed listening to constituent’s views on and suggestions for transport in the area. One of the key issues frequently raised was the need for more flexible bus services in the area. The Welsh Government is currently piloting a new flexible bus service called ‘Flecsi’ in the Holywell area, something which, if successful and well received could potentially be rolled out elsewhere.

On the topic of transport, I got back on my bike to meet up with active travel organisation Sustrans. Together we had a taster of part of the National Cycle Network (NCN) from Flint station and around the castle/coast path area, whilst talking about how we can strengthen and support opportunities to cycle in the constituency and county. It has been previously raised with me how some of the old disused railway lines could be brought back into use for cycling and walking and I would be keen to hear from constituents any suggestions for possible cycle paths to better connect communities, our coast and countryside.

It was good to pop into Holywell Area Community Museum again, when I was hosting a stall on Holywell market last week.

The museum, which has free entry, and a café on site, provides a fascinating window into local history.

I particularly enjoyed the tour provided by John Wilshire and seeing how the Point of Ayr section has really taken shape, especially as my own Taid worked with John many years ago.

I would definitely recommend a visit to the museum if you haven’t already and I will continue to support their work.

Thank you to all businesses and organisations who have welcomed me to visit this summer, and to constituents across Delyn who have taken the time to fill out my summer transport survey.

You can still fill the survey out online at www.hannahblythyn.cymru and watch out for some of the drop in sessions I hope to host next month. As always, I remain on hand to support constituents and businesses with any issues which they may have. Please get in touch if I can be of any help on 01352762102 or at Hannah.Blythyn@senedd.wales.
