NURSING courses once again proved popular at Wrexham’s university.

Nationally, the coronavirus pandemic has been credited as a factor that saw a leap in the number of students applying for nursing courses.

The official UCAS figures released on August 10 show the number of students that were accepted onto nursing courses after learning their A-level grades has increased by eight per cent from last year, to 26,730.

The trend was just the same here in Wrexham at Glyndwr University where quadruple the amount of people applied for the available places on their various courses in the field.

A Glyndwr University spokesman told the Leader how admissions to nursing closed sooner this year than previously, as course places were filled quickly, due to the volume and quality of the applications received early on.

The positive increase in nursing students across the UK comes as Glyndwr prepares to deliver an exciting raft of new Nursing and Allied Health Professional Courses.

It is also working on creating a new Health Education Innovation Quarter as part of the university’s ‘Campus 2025’ strategy, which will be instrumental in the delivery of courses which range from Adult Nursing to Paramedic Science.

It is hoped that the new courses will provide our hospitals in North Wales - and other care providers - with a steady influx of highly qualified professionals and help to alleviate staffing shortages locally.
