THERE is an exciting future for children’s football in Broughton ahead following the merger of the two junior teams in the area.

Broughton Super Saints FC and Broughton Park FC have come together to form Broughton United FC.

This will mean one club in the area and it is hoped it will create a long term legacy for children’s grassroots football in the area.

The club will be providing football for over 300 children, its boys teams will be playing in the Flintshire Junior league and the girls teams in the North East Wales Girls League.

Broughton Super Saints has been in existence for 44 years and to keep the Saints aspect alive it has been incorporated into the new club badge.

Both clubs have had considerable success in terms of developing players and in providing a great club environment.

The merging of both clubs will benefit the new club massively in terms of structure, coaching, player development, facilities, fund raising and player recruitment, the club said.

Recently, the clubs worked together on free fun football sessions for children in the community supported by the Football Association Wales (FAW).

Ahead of the new season, the FAW awarded the club a Silver accreditation, this takes into account a number of factors and is a reward for the hard work that has gone in from all involved over the last few months.

Broughton Park FC chairman, Adam Lee, said: "This is a very exciting time for all involved and has been met with great positivity in the community, bringing the clubs together means more opportunities for children of all ages in Broughton and its wider community.

"The future of football is very bright in the village and being awarded a Silver Accreditation by the FAW in our first two months is a real statement of what we are about."

Broughton Super Saints FC secretary, Anthony Foden, said: "This merger has been something close to my heart, not only bringing together both clubs but also just as important for the whole community.

"The future for grassroots football is in great hands with the new structure, committee and the backing of a major sponsor. I always say we are just parents passing through and the way the club is now structure then it’s here for a very long time."
