Friends are the family you choose, which makes them that bit special. Any time a friend is lost, it cuts deep.

Some friendships last a lifetime, others are fleeting but no less important.

And everyone needs friends, even the rich and famous. From Ant and Dec to Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, friends are the relationships that are our glue.

Friday is International Day of Friendship, so with that in mind, we're asking you to tell us about the people in your life you're proud to call a friend.

Whether it was your best friend at school (maybe they still are) or a friend you made as an adult, we want to hear all about those people you had a unique bond with.

Is there someone who can always get a smile out of you, no matter what? Were you their best man or maid of honour?

Maybe you've been through a life-changing experience together or simply had a childhood full of memories you can't imagine without them.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly, with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Our relationships with those we deem friends, have never been so important.

It was those bonds that got many through the early days of the pandemic, especially during the first lockdown.

From a text or video call to thoughtful gestures from afar, every action of friendship mattered.

So whether it's looking back at friendships of old or the people in your life today, let's celebrate those friends who are a part of us.
