AN ANIMAL rescue has issued an urgent appeal for help as they are 'struggling more than they ever have'.

The Leader previously reported how Jackson's Animal Rescue took over the former Capricorn Animal Rescue in September 2020.

The site was left in a huge state of disrepair, but volunteers have since made real progress - but after reviewing their current financial situation they have had to take the difficult decision to postpone any further work.

Formerly known as Wirral Animal Sanctuary, the charity’s founder Steph Oliver took to social media to say they have an endless list of animals needing their help.

She said: "You may have noticed that unfortunately recently, most of our posts have been us pleading for help, either with physical donations or financial ones.

"After reviewing our current financial situation, we are very, very worried and have sleepless nights ahead of us. We are doing SO much between our two centres, but unfortunately our financial support just isn’t catching up with that to a level that we can sustain long-term.

"We moved to Jackson’s Place almost a year ago, and we are so incredibly proud of what we have achieved here, but it’s breaking us at this point.

"In less than a year we have renovated the cattery and taken in a total of 40 cats so far, we have created a safe place for rabbits and guinea pigs needing rescue and taken in 50 so far with a huge waiting list to follow.

"We have taken farm animals only a few hours before they were due to be put to sleep at a huge cost to us. We have worked endlessly to renovate this run down site into somewhere amazing where animals are safe, but right now we are seriously struggling more than we ever have."

Alongside their work at Jackson's Place, the team's work with the Wildlife Centre on the Wirral has continued with 721 admissions so far this year.

Vet bills for all work are now averaging at £3,000 per month.

Steph added: "We have postponed any further development at Jackson’s Place for the time being as we simply cannot afford it. We have endless waiting lists of animals needing our help, we have animals getting dumped on us last minute with no time to prepare or ask for donations for things they need.

"We have animals being surrendered in very poor health, costing us a fortune in vets bills, we have people breeding rabbits and needing us to clean up the mess, which means neutering, vaccinating and microchipping them before they can be re-homed.

"We make a huge financial loss on every rabbit that we help as the adoption fees do not come close to what they cost us in vet fees. But we are one of the few rescues who can and will help with rabbits, and we don’t want to stop that.

"We are often asked when we can open the kennels and start helping dogs at Jackson’s Place, and until we can afford to run with what we are doing, unfortunately this is a long, long way off even being a possibility.

"Our bank account is almost empty, I absolutely hate writing these posts but we really need help. Since restrictions have eased, our donations have plummeted. We understand that people are saving for fun things that everyone needs right now, but if you can spare a few pounds, it would help us so much.

"We are asking that if people can donate, it’s done via Paypal or BACS, as there is no waiting period to receive the funds. Our situation is that serious right now I’m afraid."
