TRIBUTES to have been paid to a much-loved Wrexham man who has lost a brave 11-year battle with a brain tumour.

Wayne Phillips, from Caia Park, died on July 12 and the 41-year-old is fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Dad of Maggie, and loving partner of Julie - Wayne was also cherished son of Brenda and Johnny and brother to Emma and Amy.

Julie Billington paid a touching tribute to her partner of a decade.

"As a family we are heartbroken, he was my soulmate and his daughter's hero. His memory will live on through her," she said.

"The strength and positivity he has shown over the years is a testament to how strong he was as a person.

"Wayne was never one for goodbyes. His saying was 'keep smiling' and that's what we will continue to do in his memory."

First diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010, Wayne underwent operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to bravely fight the cancer for over a decade.

A testament to Wayne's character is that Julie has been inundated with hundreds of messages of love and support in the wake of his death.

Many people took to social media to pay tribute to him.

People describe him as a "fighter", "lovely lad" and the "kindest man you could ever meet."

One person said: "He was the most kind and honest man I have ever met - RIP, my friend."

Another added: "Why does this happen to the best of people? Rest in peace, buddy, you’ll be deeply missed."

A further comment said: "My heart is breaking as I know my lovely friend fought till the end.

"Wayne’s lovely smile could light up any room and his forever giving heart with now fly with the best.

"You truly were our angel on earth, we will all look after your precious girls now, sleep tight and rest easy."

A fundraising page has been set up in Wayne's memory - with the proceeds going to the Marie Curie charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.
