A HEALTH board is working to 're-established' the core services at a Wrexham GP surgery.

Concerns have been raised over the 'totally unacceptable' waiting times for getting an appointment at the Hillcrest Surgery.

The Leader previously reported that the issue of Hillcrest Medical Centre was raised at a meeting of Caia Park Community Council back in May.

Councillors said residents had come to them with concerns about what is happening at the centre after they had received letters.

Betsi Cadwalader University Heath Board issued a statement to explain that the GP partners running Hillcrest, as well as Forge Road Surgery and Borras Park Surgery, had resigned.

The practice transferred to the health board on June 1, after which they said there will be a review process to improve services across the three sites.

However, residents have complained that they cannot get an appointment.

Hundreds of people in Wrexham said they were unable to access primary health care which is having a knock on effect on A&E waiting times.

One resident told the Leader that they are constantly being told there are no available appointments, no matter what time you call, and slammed the service as 'totally unacceptable'.

Simon Jones, Assistant Director Of Primary Care And Community Care in the East of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: "We are working to re-establish the core General Practice services for Hillcrest, Borras and Forge Road.

"The practice team are currently introducing changes to the appointment system to ensure patients are able to book an appointment and be seen in their preferred practice location."
