A HOLYWELL man has been jailed after threatening his ex-partner and her unborn child.

Aled Conrad Jones, of Strand Crescent, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 47-year-old admitted that on June 3 at Bryn Mawr Road in Holywell he attended the home address of Nicola Lee-Mellor and made verbal threats and gestures, which he was prohibited from doing by a restraining order.

Jim Neary, prosecuting, said Jones' relationship with the complainant had started in 2018 and when he found out she was pregnant he became abusive and would control her and monitor who she saw.

The court heard Ms Lee-Mellor described him as "a nightmare" and had called the police so many times in 2019 that the restraining order was imposed.

On the day of the offence the complainant, who was pregnant and at her home with another young child, heard loud banging.

She opened her curtains to see Jones, who spat on the glass and told her: "I hope you and that dirty sprog inside you drop dead," before making a 'slit throat' gesture.

He then told her: "And I want £25 tomorrow."

In a victim impact statement the complainant said Jones' behaviour over the years had lowered her quality of life and left her with anxiety.

Gary Harvey, defending, called on District Judge Gwyn Jones to give his client credit for his guilty plea, stating he had decided he didn't want to put Ms Lee-Mellor through the emotional difficulties of a trial.

The Judge told Jones: "Your behaviour is having a significant impact on her ordinary way of life.

"Nobody should have to put up with such behaviour."

He handed Jones a 26 week term of immediate imprisonment and left the pre-existing restraining order in place until December 2025.
