A NEW community radio station for Wrexham has revealed its plans going forward to continue serving the town.

Premier Radio was established during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 to help the local community through communication, to combat loneliness and to promote good mental health.

Since its establishment, the radio station has gone from strength-to-strength and in June it will be moving to new studio premises at Yellow & Blue, a social enterprise project in Wrexham, which will enable the station to welcome guests for interviews as well as support an important community project.

The station has also been developing their schedule and they now offer a range of programmes throughout the day, from popular music programmes, to interviews with local musicians and a ‘DJ Anthem’ segment.

Along with this, the station also supports community initiatives, fundraising projects, and businesses through promotion on the station and the website.

Going forward, Premier Radio are also hoping to launch a sister station in south Denbighshire, to support the local community and build a larger reach across north Wales.

Following the meeting with Ms Atherton, David Howells, a Director at Premier Radio, said: “At Premier Radio we are endeavouring to create a radio station that can support our brilliant community.

“That is why we are offering a diverse range of programmes for listeners, whilst also supporting local fundraising efforts and businesses on our station and our website. If any businesses, groups or individuals that are fundraising would like support from us, please do get in contact!”

Adding, Ms Atherton said: “My office and I have been working with Premier Radio since its inception to back their growth and early development.

"As such, it is very exciting to see the station thriving, whilst also supporting the Wrexham community, and I cannot wait to see their next expansion plans come to fruition.

“Importantly, community radio stations like Premier Radio provide a space for important local news to be shared, diverse opinions to be voiced and enjoyment to be had. In short, they can bring communities together and Premier Radio is doing just that which is fantastic to see!”
