POLICE in Flintshire are calling on residents to continue casting their votes respectfully and safely.

Sgt Emma Prevete of the Flintshire South police team said officers have been out and about at more than 40 polling stations today.

She said: "We have Operation Trepang running today, which is the Neighbourhood Teams policing the elections. "We have attended 43 polling stations and will continue to do that throughout Thursday.

"Geographically, Flintshire South is a huge patch so it is time consuming - but it is important for public engagement and visibility.

"If we come across any issues it's a case of problem solving.

"Often these stations are in Community Centres and you can come across anti-social behaviour, or small protests from people wanting to air their opinion on the politics.

"So far today, there have been no problems up to now, so hopefully that is going to continue until 10pm.

"We encourage people to embrace the opportunity to vote safely and respectfully."
