AN inmate at HMP Berwyn has been handed extra jail time for picking up drugs which were thrown into the prison.

Daniel Young, 31, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court via video link on Thursday morning.

He admitted that on April 1 last year, he possessed a quantity of ketamine with the intent to supply it to another.

The court heard Young, who has been in custody since 2012 following his conviction for robbery, had picked up a tennis ball which had been thrown into the grounds of HMP Berwyn.

It contained Ketamine and Young was to share it with others, the court heard.

Adam Brown, defending, told the court Young had acted under duress or fear of violence, describing his role as “lesser.”

Judge Niclas Parry handed Young a four month sentence.
