After the sad passing of Captain Tom Moore, the children wanted to do something in his honour to raise money for a charity that is close to the hearts of many, Nightingale House.

After many brilliant ideas it was decided to complete the ‘Year 5 and 6 Captain Tom 4x100 Mile Relay Challenge'.

This involved each of the four classes walking 100 miles in honour of the late Sir Captain Tom Moore.

Once one class had completed their combined 100 miles, they passed the baton to the next class to complete theirs, so after four days an amazing 400 miles had been walked.

Headteacher Phil Dickson said: "We are so proud of all the pupils and staff of Years 5 and 6 at Maes y Mynydd who have raised an amazing total of £760."

Pupils at the school have been making the most of the good weather and getting stuck in to some planting and enjoying plenty of fresh air.

As part of their work on Jack and the Beanstalk, Class 1 have planted their very own beans.

Class 2 spent time getting the vegetable beds ready and planting seeds. So far the youngsters have planted broad beans, runner beans, peas, pumpkins and potatoes. They also planted some sunflowers to measure as they grow.

For last week's World Earth Day, they made some promises to look after the world by recycling and not dropping litter.

It was all about kindness for Class 3, as they continued their study of the festival of Ramadan. During this festival Muslims take every opportunity to do kind deeds.

The children made kindness paper chains with many suggestions for how they can show kindness and be helpful towards others.

They also wrote reports about Prince Philip and a letter to the Queen expressing their sadness at the loss of her husband.

Class 4 also wrote a letter of condolence to the Queen.

And worked on their maths, using multiplying and dividing skills to convert between metric units of measurement.
