A WREXHAM man has been jailed after he broke a woman's jaw in an unprovoked attack.

Jordan Ellis Roberts, of Wrexham Road in Cefn-y-Bedd, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday.

The 28-year-old had already admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and inflicting grievous bodily harm in Llay on August 7 last year.

Jemma Gordon, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening in question, victims Andrew Matthias and Courtney Faulks were called by Roberts.

He asked for a lift from the Royal British Legion Social Club in Llay, so Mr Matthias drove there with Ms Faulks as a passenger.

When they arrived he got in the car and the three set off to drop him at his home address.

But Roberts appeared to be under the influence of something, the court heard, and became angry when his request to "drop some stuff off" en-route was refused.

He shouted, swore and kicked the driver's seat.

Mr Matthias pulled over and tried to get him out of the car, which he eventually did.

There followed a "scuffle" between them, culminating in Roberts punching his "acquaintance" in the head.

He then turned to Ms Faulks, who was telling him to leave.

Roberts slammed the open car door into her before punching her in the face.

He was arrested later that day.

Mr Matthias was left with a cut and bruise to one of his eyes and Ms Faulks' jaw was broken in two places.

She required a three-hour operation to fix the damage and was unable to eat properly for weeks, the court heard.

In a victim impact statement she said she had been left with lifelong scarring from the procedure and has nightmares about Roberts.

She described the incident as an "unprovoked and unfair attack."

After the court was shown a video of the incident Myles Wilson, defending, said: "He has never wanted to watch that footage.

"He has been too ashamed to watch it and doesn't want to be reminded of how he behaved.

"Last summer he was drinking too much, he was using drugs and this culminated in this serious incident.

"It has had a real impact on Courtney Faulks."

Judge Timothy Petts told Roberts: "I am not surprised you are too ashamed to see that footage; it's an ugly incident.

"You were clearly under the influence of something.

"You punched her to the head with sufficient force to break her jaw and it has had a significant impact on her life."

The Judge jailed him for 15 months for the most serious of the two offences, imposing a three week concurrent sentence for the other.
