POLICE in Wrexham have reiterated their support for local businesses after a crackdown on repeat offenders in the town.

Insp Luke Hughes told the Leader that during lock down, Wrexham town saw an increase in shoplifting incidents with a number of repeat offenders targeting town centre retailers.

He said: "To address the issue a small dedicated team of officers was established to collate these offences and pursue those responsible.

"As a result a number of local offenders have been identified, arrested and either remanded in custody or are now on strict bail conditions not to enter the town centre.

"We are committed to supporting local businesses and will be working with retailers and the local authority to make Wrexham a safe town to visit and shop."
