FOOTBALL clubs in Flintshire are counting the costs after vandals struck at their grounds.

Mold Alexandra and Saltney Town football clubs have both suffered recent damage at their respective grounds.

Vandals have off seats in the spectator stands, damaged a hand sanitizer dispenser and even stuck shards of glass into the pitch.

Mold Alexandra suffered the damage to its Alyn Park ground on Denbigh Road on Tuesday.

A statement on the club's Facebook page posted that evening said: "A group of 20 youths broke into the ground today.

"Smashed seats in the stand, disappearing hand sanitizer unit, rubbish and the most concerning thing is they had smashed glass up and stuck it into the grass which could of caused serious injury. If you have any details on this please get in touch with us."

A subsequent statement confirmed that the matter has been reported to North Wales Police and that CCTV in the area is being reviewed.

People replied to the Facebook post to voice their anger the incident, labelling it as "disgusting", "disgraceful" and the culprits as "scum".

The damage at Saltney Town's Sandy Lane occurred on March 20.

Seats in the club's spectator stand were ripped off and left dumped.

Saltney councillor Veronica Gay said: "How will the club survive when all this vandalism is draining their finances and their spirit?

"It's hard to stay strong and focused when you are being targeted in this way."

Saltney Town has been the target of numerous instances of vandalism in the past few years - which culminated in the club nearly having to fold in 2018.
