A Wrexham school started a fun chapter, as they embraced this year's World Book Day.

Students and staff at Ysgol Bryn Alyn really got into the spirit of things this year, by dipping into some of their favourite books and testing their knowledge on a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Quizzes on knowledge of characters, book titles and famous faces who have become authors, were shared and completed using students' Pastoral Google Classrooms.

Key Stage 3 students started all-live lessons, with extracts from books linked to the subject. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne was a particular favourite with history students.

Everyone also had the opportunity to dress up as a character of their choice, use only clothing and items that they already had in their homes.

The school's key worker and vulnerable students were welcomed to school by Professor McGonagall, Nancy Drew and a tiger and a sheep from an Indian parable.

Live lessons and an assembly were hosted by none other than the White Rabbit - on a break from the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Cruella de Vil and one dalmatian (location of the other 100 currently unknown) and Mrs Banks from Mary Poppins, explaining the importance of International Women's Day as part of her voting campaign.

Headteacher Adele Slinn said: "This wonderful celebration of books and reading has been a great opportunity for our staff and students to have a little fun whilst promoting World Book Day.

"It was amazing to see the vast number of students that took part in the activities and all of the smiling faces and fantastic costumes.

"Our staff really do go that extra mile to encourage all of our students to be the very best they can be and this is another example of their innovation, dedication and enthusiasm."
