TRIBUTES were paid at a recent Holywell Town Council meeting in memory of a recent loss.

Members of the council held a silence in honour of Councillor Dolores Phelan, of Rhodfa Wenlo in Greenfield, who sadly passed away recently.

An active member of the community, Dolores served the council for over a decade in the Holywell central area since 2012.

Dolores also served on the Town Centre Committee and was a governor of Ysgol Maes-y-Felin.

Ms Phelan was an passionate member of the Transition Holywell Group and played an important role in delivering the 100 years since World War One celebrations held in the town in 2018.

She will be sadly missed by all her friends and colleagues around the local community.

Christine and Geoff Whittaker, sister and brother in law to Dolores, said that she thoroughly enjoyed working with all council members during the time that she was a member.

Town mayor Cllr Lynda Carter said: “I was privileged to not only sit on the Town Council with Dolores but also to become friendly with her. She and I would meet for coffee often by chance and spend a good hour or so ‘putting the world to rights’ as she called our chats.

“What impressed me was her humanity and she genuinely cared for others regardless of their origin of birth, gender, etc.

“She was also very funny and straight forward, if a spade required calling a spade then she had no issue in saying it.

“Dolores was a shining example of a citizen of the world, plus a genuine kind person. Oh and she loved a bag of chips eaten straight out of the wrapper.

“I am humbled to call her my friend and thankful for some of the life lessons she passed on to me.”
