DEESIDE dog walkers are being urged to clear up after their pets following a 'considerable increase' in dog fouling.

Local representatives Jack Sargeant MS and Shotton Cllr Sean Bibby are calling for dog owners to make sure they clear up after their pets following complaints from residents.

In particular, dog fouling around Shotton has increased considerably recently. Dog fouling is not only 'deeply unpleasant' it is also 'dangerous and can spread disease'.

Those caught failing to pick up after their dog can face a £100 fixed penalty fine.

Jack Sargeant MS for Alyn and Deeside said: "We understand that during lockdown people are spending more time outside, however each of us have a responsibility to keep our local area a place we can all enjoy by clearing up after our dogs."

Shotton West's Cllr Sean Bibby added: "Due to the pandemic services are already under a huge amount of pressure and we all can do our bit to help locally. Whilst we know most dog owners are responsible, there are a minority who are not abiding by the law and treating our community with contempt.

"It is vital residents report dog fouling and any information of culprits to Streetscene or myself. I will continue to liaise with Enforcement and Streetscene Officers to tackle this."

Residents are being asked to report dog fouling or any evidence of culprits – you can get in contact using streetscene@flintshire.gov.uk or telephone the helpline on 01352 701234. Mobile users can download the Flintshire App, provide details and attach photos.
