AS levels of the virus begin to drop across the country, how are things looking in Wrexham and Flintshire?

Public Health Wales can show exactly how our different communities compare with their mapping feature which was first added to the daily update provided by health officials in response to monitoring COVID-19 in October 2020.

It presents data broken down beyond the standard local authority areas that people could previously access and now shows how individual communities compare.

The data is gathered using Office of National Statistics figures of middle layer super output areas (MSOAs) and present the rolling number of cases in either a seven-day or 21-day window.

Darker areas indicate higher concentrations of the virus whilst lighter areas show lower transmission rates.

Below, we took a snapshot look of the latest available seven-day period spanning from January 23 to 29. See how your area fares below…

Here’s what we found in Flintshire:

The latest data makes for promising reading as every area in the county saw rates of the virus continue to fall compared to this time last week – with the exception of Queensferry and Sandycroft that reported a very small increase in cases.

Figures reveal that, during the latest seven-day period, the Mold and Buckley South areas have reported the most new coronavirus reports with 34 cases each.

However, it was Buckley North, Northop and Sychdyn that had the highest concentration of cases at a rate of 420.2 cases per 100,000 people.

• Connah’s Quay South and Northop Hall - 21 cases and rate of 316.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Connah’s Quay Wepre - 15 cases and rate of 204.2 cases per 100,000 people

• Ewloe and Hawarden – 24 cases and rate of 220.8 cases per 100,000 people

• Flint North East - 11 cases and rate of 158.4 cases per 100,000 people

• Flint South West - 11 cases and rate of 177.1 cases per 100,000 people

• Gronant, Ffynnongroyw and Trelawnyd - Four cases and rate of 80.2 cases per 100,000 people

• Holywell and Bagillt - 31 cases and rate of 283.8 cases per 100,000 people

• Leeswood, Treuddyn and Gwernaffield - 12 cases and rate of 161.4 cases per 100,000 people

• Mold - 34 cases and rate of 335.9 cases per 100,000 people

• Mostyn and Holway – 14 cases and rate of 210.3 cases per 100,000 people

• New Brighton and Mynydd Isa - 17 cases and 236.0 cases per 100,000 people

• Pen-y-ffordd and Higher Kinnerton – 12 cases and rate of 195.5 cases per 100,000 people

• Queensferry and Sandycroft - 16 cases and rate of 187.6 cases per 100,000 people

Here’s what we found in Wrexham:

Over the border in Wrexham, figures largely paint a similar picture and show that the national lockdown is working to drive numbers down.

The county is presently known to be one of the worst hit areas when it comes to coronavirus but this data shows many communities have more than halved their figures in the last seven days.

Every area saw cases fall with the exception Borras and Rhosnesni which reported a very small increase.

The map reports that the Hermitage and Whitegate area has the highest number of new cases in the data recording a total of 46. However, Caia Park has become the worst affected in terms of cases per 100,000 with a rate of 602.2 at present.
