THE country's fifth largest supermarket chain is in the process of rebuilding its Mold store.

Discount food retailer Aldi demolished its 20-year-old store off Chester Street in Mold but is now rebuilding it in a new size, design and configuration, with the hope being that it will reopen in September of this year.

While the site access from the roundabout would not change, the car park is being redesigned to make it easy for customers to park.

The new, larger food store is being designed to improve convenience with a more customer-focussed layout to allow products to be found more easily with wider aisles and more natural lighting. There will be more dedicated space for fresh meat products, a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store, and an area especially for health and beauty products will all form part of the new-look store.

The company said the aim is to provide a better shopping experience for customers, as well as securing the retention of 40 jobs.

The scheme has attracted an overwhelming support following a public consultation last March and April, with over 97 per cent of respondents supportive of the proposals.

A spokesperson for the chain said: "Aldi is underway with its construction of a brand new food store for Mold. We are working in accordance with the current Covid-19 guidelines and hope to open the new store in September 2021.”
