A Flintshire high school has reason to celebrate, after they put out a successful appeal for laptops, as teachers and students adapt to a new way of teaching and learning.

The Alun School in Mold Tweeted: "We would be very grateful for donations of any unwanted laptops that we can refurbish to support our students with remote learning."

In response, two local businesses have gone one better and donated eight new laptops between them.

Robert Lewis, an independent financial adviser at Celtic Financial Planning Ltd, based in Mold, dropped off three new laptops to help youngsters study from home.

A former Alun School pupil himself, along with colleague Sam Bentley, Rob said: "As a small business we are passionate about supporting the local community, especially in times of need.

"We're very strong on our corporate social responsibility mandate, it's about giving back to the community.

"Without the community, we wouldn't be in business."

It was a sentiment shared by S&T Systems, also based in Mold.

The company's directors, Tudor Jones and Simon Thelwell, presented school headteacher Jane Cooper with five new laptops.

On asking Tudor why they felt they should answer the appeal, he said: "No child should be without education or the means of getting an education.

"Ultimately, we try and help our local community as much as we can."

Headteacher Miss Cooper said: "As a school, we have been committed to enabling all our students to follow their normal timetable from home with teachers supporting them in every lesson.

"Ensuring our students have sufficient hardware to use at home has been a priority to make this possible. We have been very grateful to receive donations of new and used laptops from the community and local businesses following a social media appeal which has enabled us to loan more than 50 devices for our students to use at home.

"Having these devices at home has made a tremendous difference for some of our students and is helping to ensure that no one is left behind."
