With much uncertainly about the future, looking back has never been so in demand.

So it was with that in mind that I asked readers to share photos from the past but with a romantic twist.

I asked people to share memories and photos of their wedding day, and what I got in return has been an absolute joy.

Photos and tales of what was one of the happiest days in people's lives, proved incredibly uplifting and in some cases, quite moving.

Pauline and Ray Evans, of Wrexham, married in Minera Church, March 25, 1972. The couple met in Oswestry 52 years ago in a disco pub and got engaged 12 months later.

Pauline said: “We had a honeymoon in London. Hubby drove in an old banger of a car. We stopped overnight in Coventry. It’s our golden anniversary next year.”

Margaret Massey sent in a photo from her wedding to Arthur, who celebrated their 73rd anniversary on January 17.

Margaret said: “We were wed at St James’ Church in Rhosddu in 1948, and still live in Rhosddu.

“My hubby is a Burma Star veteran. He is one of the only two left of the Burma Star associates in Wrexham.

“We have four wonderful daughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.”

Carol, originally from Knights Green, in Flint but now in Australia, said: “We had a double wedding with my sister Paula and her partner Graham Leese, it was on a Bank Holiday weekend and Graham and his family were coming to Flint from Liverpool.

“They got stuck in traffic and the brides had to do a few turns around the town before the coach finally arrived.

“My father gave my sister away and my grandfather gave me away, as there wasn’t room for three of us to walk down the aisle together and we thought it would have looked a bit silly if my dad had to do a double take.

“We had our reception in Cornist Hall, the catering was done by ourselves and my mother made the cakes, which I decorated."

The best man was Dave Harrison, and maid of honour was Sarah Roberts. Bridesmaids were Nicola Vines, Anna Brown, Nicola Roberts and Shannon Carey and the bride was given away by Alex Roberts.

A reception and evening party were held at the Miners Institute, Grosvenor Road, Wrexham.

Llinos Edwards shared photos of her grandparents’ and parents’ weddings.

Here are her grandparents on her mother’s side. She said: “Tom Platt and Audrey Vaughan Platt (nee. Vaughan-Smith) who were married on August 17, 1957 at St Tydfil’s in Coedpoeth, Wrexham.

“They went on to have a set of identical girl twins and have four grandchildren. Sadly, both grandparents have passed away now. My Nanny, Audrey in 2011, and my Grandad Tom in August, 2019.”

And here are her grandparents on her mother’s side. Llinos said: “Arnold Edwards and Valmai Edwards (nee. Hughes) married on March 24, 1959 in Ruthin at Capel Y Tabernacl.

“They had one son, Gwyn and three grandchildren. Both have sadly passed away, I lost my Taid, Arnold in 2006 and recently lost my Nain, Valmai in 2019.”

Finally, Llinos shared the wedding of her own parents, who had a special celebration during last year’s lockdown.

She said: “Jill Platt-Edwards (nee. Platt) and Gwyn Edwards who married on August 4, 1990 at St Giles Church, Wrexham. In summer 2020, we celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, known as Pearl whilst in lockdown.

“My parents have three children and we all live together. Although I had planned a surprise for their 30th anniversary which had been a year in the planning, this had to be to cancelled due to the pandemic.

“Instead, I arranged for a surprise evening for them at home, recreating their wedding meal 30 years on. I gave them an invitation prior to the day ‘inviting’ them to the evening, even though it was all in the comfort of our own dining room.

“The room was filled with loads of photos from their wedding day, where they had over 100 guests attend. We had also bought them a star in their names to mark the achievement. It was a real success.”
