A POPULAR town food festival has once again decided to postpone their event amidst concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

On January 12, the Mold Food Festival’s 2021 return was put on hold as concerns about the future due to the virus continue to look uncertain for gatherings such as this.

In a social media statement, organisers said: “It is with great sadness that we have decided not to hold our festival again this year. We know this is disappointing news but we are in unprecedented times.

“We have spent the last few months looking at options for this year.

“The whole team was positive, fire-up, determined to do the best we could. However, given the severity of the current situation, we don’t think it would be wise to forge ahead.

“Right now, health trumps all and when the festival does return, we want it to be done so in a way which is safe and protects you, our friends.

“We look forward to the days when we can celebrate the area’s best food and drink again. Until then, please follow the rules, keep yourself and others safe, and we hope to see you in 2022.”

Mold Food Festival was due to celebrate its fifteenth year in 2020 but organisers were forced to make the tough call to cancel the gathering over developing concerns about COVID-19.

The last festival to go ahead in a time before coronavirus took place in 2019 and was headlined by award-winning cheesemaker and Coronation Street star Sean Wilson.

Hundreds are thought to have come to the town over the weekend-long event showcasing the best that local food and drink providers had to offer.

The festival team were hopeful of a 2021 return but with the new strain of coronavirus, and rising numbers in all parts of Wales, it was postponed for a second time.
