A CHARITY aiming to bring joy to less fortunate children in North Wales at Christmas has helped more people than ever before.

The Leader caught up with North Wales Superkids founder Margaret Williams MBE after a Christmas like no other due to the coronavirus.

With the pandemic bringing about job losses and causing families to eat up their hard-earned savings, more families reaching a crisis point than years gone by.

The charity’s annual toy appeal launched again in October with the aim of making sure no child had to miss out on the magic of Christmas due to circumstances out of their control.

Last year North Wales Superkids gave gifts to 1,721 children and young people – a record breaking amount for the team.

This year, they surpassed that with 2,250 parcels going out across North Wales to those in need.

Speaking about the year they’ve had, the retired social worker said: “I couldn’t have done it without all my little elves helping me make this a reality and the generous public for backing us once again when everyone’s had a real tough time this year.

“The referrals came in from right across North Wales and I’m relieved to say we were able to deliver on all those who needed us.”

The mum-of-two told the Leader how the appeal was almost downsized after worries that many people may not be in a fortunate enough position to give donations.

However, she was left “utterly speechless” by the generosity of the community who helped make sure that thousands of families were smiling on Christmas Day.
