Bryn-Yr-Haul care home in Mold Pfizer/BioNtech jab on Wednesday and residents hope they will soon be able to "hug and kiss" loved ones again.

Resident Glenda Waye was one of the people to receive the vaccination at the care home

She said."The vaccine was absolutely fine. I had dreads this morning, which I shouldn’t have because I didn’t feel a thing.

“I am not the bravest person in the world, but do have it.”

Christine Whiteside, the manager at Bryn Yr Haul, said: “It is a momentous occasion for the home to be able to be vaccinated as a pilot scheme.

"It benefits residents and staff and all the relatives.

"It is something we have been working towards, and it means so much to be able to open the home again eventually to indoor visitors where we can do hugs, we can do kisses, and basically back to what we were before.”

Health minister Vaughan Gething said on Monday: “Following Wales' successful roll-out of the first Covid vaccine last week, we are starting the care home resident phase of the programme carefully.

"However, we need to continue to make sure we can safely transport the vaccine to people who can’t come to clinics.

“If all goes well this week, we will start the roll-out of vaccinations ahead of Christmas, bringing a new level of protection to some of our most vulnerable people.

“Our NHS staff have done a fantastic job to get this first vaccine out in a safe and timely manner. I’m extremely grateful for their hard work on this and across the course of the pandemic.”
