CHIRK has its very own drive-through winter wonderland this year thanks to the efforts of one of the town’s long-standing businesses.

Seventh Heaven, in Chirk Road, has transformed the outside of its business into a festive drive-through experience with light-up decorations, music and dancers bringing Christmas joy in a Covid-safe manner.

Tony and Tracy Butler, of the business, wanted to put on the display at Chirk Mill to give the community something to enjoy this Christmas period, after a difficult year.

“We’ve made a really big effort because of the situation this year,” said Tony.

“It’s to raise everyone’s spirits really, and we thought we could raise some money through donations for local charities as well to help people affected by Covid this year.

“We’re really pleased to be able to do it and it has been really nice to see people coming down with their children.

“It’s the least we could do – it’s not Disneyland, but it looks really nice.”

The couple are collecting donations from those who visit the display, with money to go towards a Christmas hamper campaign launched by Community Agent Yvie Bernett.

All money will go towards hampers to be donated to people in need this Christmas.

The couple have been overwhelmed by the response of visitors so far.

“People have been very positive about it,” Tony added.

“We had someone come down in an open-top car last week which was something we’re not used to.

“I’d like to give a special mention to Steve Davies and Mike from Securcam who helped to put it all together.

“We’ve had lots of donations from places and people locally, and people have been really generous.

“People recognise what we’re doing it for which is mainly for the community.

“I would urge people to come down – there’s music and people in costumes and it’s very festive.

“On Friday and Saturday night we will have more people in silly costumes and Santa will be there on his sleigh.”

The couple thanked Chirk printers, who donated 200 Christmas cards for children to colour in, and the SPAR which donated 12 tubs of Celebrations chocolates.

They also thanked those who donated to the JustGiving page set up to purchase more lights for the display, with £900 in total.

And both expressed their gratitude to Dave Young, who made nine reindeer from scratch, and Jewsons in Chirk which donated 20 gabions for the Christmas presents and the land drain pipe to make the candy canes.

Father Christmas and his friends will be at the display on Friday and Saturday evenings in the build-up to Christmas from 6pm until 7.30pm.

The display will be running every evening between 4.30pm and 8pm.
