A THEATRE actress has raised hundreds of pounds for fellow freelancers by walking up Moel Famau every day throughout November.

Karen Campbell has covered a total distance of more than 100 miles – the same as almost four full marathons - raising over £1,400.

Creative freelancers have been hit hard by the impact of coronavirus as, when venues were forced to shut their doors in March, most of the work dried up.

The Helping Hand Appeal will give small bursaries of £560 to freelancers, giving some relief during this period of uncertainty.

For Karen, this was not enough, and she decided to do something herself to help.

The actress, who has appeared in the Flintshire-based theatre’s productions since 1979, said: “Theatr Clwyd is like my second home. My first ever performance was on the main stage in 1979 in a production of Carmina Burana. I fell in love with performing and it has been my passion ever since.

“For the last five years, I have performed in several shows including the record breaking ‘Mold Riots’. This will be the first time that I am not ‘treading the boards’ over the festive season.”

The mum-of-four says that many in the creative industry's have “lost their livelihoods” due to the ongoing global health crisis.

She continues: “There have been several shows that I have been cast in that have been cancelled or postponed - some at Theatr Clwyd, a tour of Macbeth in Singapore and Theatre Seven.

“This is why I will be taking up the challenge of walking up and down Moel Famau every day throughout November.”

Karen hopes that people will get behind her and support the cause.

She adds: “Please donate what you can so that when the day comes that Theatr Clwyd can once again open its doors, we will be ready to perform and entertain in a way that only this beautiful and fabulous theatre can do.”
