A LORRY-load of toys made its way to a Flintshire-based charity helping kids in need this Christmas.

The delivery was made on Thursday afternoon, November 12, to the North Wales Superkids ‘grotto’ based in Mold.

Charity volunteers couldn’t believe it when the Leader broke the news about the donation.

Founder Margaret Williams MBE, from Flint, has been running the charity for several years now and says the influx of toys will make a huge difference when preparing packs to send out to those in need this Christmas.

She said: “We are absolutely over the moon with this donation, it's going to help us out massively with getting our packs out to those who need us.

"We were worried at one point that we just wouldn't be able to do what we have done in previous years because of all the limitations but people all over the region have got behind us and we're so amazed by the generosity."

Margaret adds that there are 'more and more' agencies' calling on them for help right across North Wales and worries that the situation will only continue to get worse closer to Christmas for some families.

She says: "The usual reasons like families working on low income will be there but on top of that we'll probably need to account for people that are in the process of losing their jobs.

"Maybe they've been furloughed and they'll sadly be losing their job but benefits now won't kick in before Christmas because they take about six weeks. They're the ones that are really going to be in trouble."

The donation was provided by supermarket chain Aldi and totalled an amazing £2,000 worth of toys.

Jon Wilson, regional managing director at Aldi, added: “In these difficult times, it’s important for us all to look after the most vulnerable in our communities.

“That’s why the work of charities like Superkids cannot be overestimated and we are glad to be able to support them with our donation of toys this Christmas.”

For the past two years, The Leader has given its support to North Wales Superkids, an amazing charity gathering gifts for children of all ages who may otherwise receive nothing this Christmas.

This year, when it is more important than ever, we are doing the same again.

Susan Perry, Group Editor for the Leader (Newsquest, North Wales), expressed her gratitude to Aldi for this “very generous donation”.

She said: “Their generosity is going to make such a difference to so many children. Every child deserves a lovely Christmas and that is exactly what the amazing team at Superkids provides.

“The fantastic amount of toys that Aldi has given will go such a long way and result in so many smiles.

“I would urge all our readers, your donation, however big or small, can make such a difference. If you can help, please do.”
