A FLINTSHIRE mum spoke of her pride after her daughter decided to help an Armed Forces charity in a creative way.

Frankie Furnell, aged four and from Greenfield, noticed fewer poppies around this year and decided to do something about it.

Her mum Brittany Gannon, 28, said: "Her dad Nathan is in the Army, so she's always had some knowledge about the Poppy Appeal.

"We've always done something for it every year and usually go to the parades in Holywell or Liverpool.

"This year she saw there were not many poppies around and asked why she couldn't buy one.

"She asked if it was because of 'the germs'.

"So she decided to make one for her dad and post it to him and we made one for our window at home to show our respect."

Miss Gannon said she posted a picture of Frankie's creations on social media and received a big response.

"My friends were asking if she could make them one for their windows and one suggested they could give a donation to the Poppy Appeal for it," she explained. "I set up a fundraising page on my Facebook for the Royal British Legion and we've had about £105 so far.

"We were flabbergasted. Every time I mention it she smiles.

"She's really enjoyed making them and she used her own handprints.

"She phoned her dad and told him 'I raised £100 for you and the other soldiers - and the ones in the past too'.

"I could cry - she's such a kind little girl."

Miss Gannon said she'd recommend other parents try making the poppies to mark Remembrance.

She added: "It's a way of showing respect but instead of printing them out, with kids being in lockdown, why not make something? "It's messy play for them and kids love paint."
