CONCERNS have been raised over planning developments in Penyffordd.

Jack Sargeant, MS for Alyn and Deeside has organised for ministers to discuss changes to planning procedures with Penyffordd Community Council.

Penyffordd Community Council has raised concerns about planning permission in the local area as more and more ‘inappropriate and expensive’ housing is built despite community council opposition.

Mr Sargeant has taken the issue to the Senedd, calling for councils to be ‘empowered’ in the development of Welsh Government planning policy.

Mr Sargeant said: “Penyffordd Community Council plays a vital role in supporting its local community and I’m grateful to them for their expertise in this matter.

“Having recognised this issue, I’ve raised the concerns of the council and residents at the highest level of government in the Senedd chamber and am pleased to say ministers will now be meeting with the community council to discuss their concerns.

“Now I want to hear local residents views on housing developments in Penyffordd, please email your thoughts to Jack.Sargeant@Senedd.Wales and these will be used to inform our approach going forward."

Elected chairman of the council Richard Bestwick added: “We’re grateful to Jack for standing up for Penyffordd and organising for ministers to meet with the Council.

“We are not against development per se. However, these developments cannot be considered in isolation, without understanding the community and learning from past planning decisions. The infrastructure must be in place to support new housing, otherwise major problems ensue that take years to sort out.

“We look forward to discussing with ministers how we can rectify the issues with the current planning procedures and protect the future of our village.”
