VILLAGERS in Wrexham are planning to spread Christmas cheer in a unique way this year.

The Marford and Gresford Living Advent Calendar will see selected residents decorating their windows with a variety of festive displays.

One window will then be revealed each night in December, for the enjoyment of neighbours and members of the community.

Organiser Helen Mellor said: "Each of the houses taking part will have a set date and they will unveil their window at 6.30pm. "That could mean opening curtains, taking a covering down or lighting the window up.

"Behind, there will be a Christmas scene or something to do with Christmas.

"I thought it would be a lovely way to get the community together and this is something people can enjoy in a covid-safe way. "We're not promoting gathering but because it is an outdoor event if someone in the same street is unveiling their window it might be nice for neighbours to see.

"People can also perhaps catch up with the new windows when they are walking past."

Mrs Mellor said the project received a great response from the community.

"On the same day I posted it out as an idea I could have filled the calendar twice over," she said. "There's such wonderful community spirit here. "Businesses have come forward to be involved as well.

"We've said it is entirely up to the people taking part but we have suggested they could also put a bucket out to collect for local charities as well.

"Everyone is really excited about it and it's brought a bit of a joyous feeling to the community already."
