A WREXHAM mum has described the terrifying moment she woke to a smell of burning before finding a phone charger about to set on fire.

Sue Davies, from Johnstown, is issuing a warning to people who keep charges plugged in overnight following the incident which occurred on September 18.

Miss Davies, a mother-of-two, had woken to a smell of burning and had presumed it was coming from outside as her bedroom windows were open.

But when she got up and went to put her phone on charge, with the charger located in her two-year and eight-month-old sons' bedroom, she made the terrifying finding.

Miss Davies explained: "When I went to put my phone on charge the charger instantly burnt my finger it was almost on fire - the plastic was all melted and there was a strong smell of burning.

"I'm just so thankful I woke up when I did as it could and would have been catastrophic - my two boys were in the room with the charger.

"It could have been minutes before it set on fire - we're so lucky."

And Miss Davies is now urging people to disconnect their phone and other chargers overnight.

She said: "Please can everyone unplug their chargers if they not in use, my charger was always plugged in even when I wasn't using it - I definitely won't be leaving it like that again.

"I was lucky I caught it before it set alight - so please check and unplug them if they're not in use."
