A PENSIONER has been left thousands of pounds out of pocket following a distraction theft in Wrexham.

The Community Safety East Team of North Wales Police released details on social media after an elderly lady was the victim of this crime on Tuesday, September 15, outside the Wrexham Morrison’s store on Ruthin Road at around 3pm.

A spokesman for the team explains that the lady was emptying her shopping into her car where she had also left her bag.

They go on to state that a male with a "Turkish type" accent described as 5ft 7in and wearing a red and white striped shirt stopped the woman and asked her for directions.

The crime was discovered later that day when the bank called the lady to explain that £2,000 worth of purchases were made with her stolen cards.

Police are regularly issuing alerts and warnings with distraction thefts - urging people to remain on their guard at all times.
