SPEED cameras in Flintshire have been upgraded in a bid to reduce casualties on the road.
Following an invitation from Welsh Government to submit applications through the Road Safety Grant Fund, Flintshire County Council has been successful in obtaining funding for the upgrade of its existing fleet of Fixed Speed Cameras to digital technology.
Work is set to begin on September 1.
Working in partnership with GoSafe and North Wales Police, a total of 8 existing Speed Cameras have been identified for replacement which are situated at the following locations;
• A5104 Pontybodkin
• A5119 Sychdyn
• A548 Greenfield
• A548 Oakenholt
• A550 Gladstone Way, Hawarden
• A548 Mostyn
• A549 Mynydd Isa
• B5129 Pentre
The upgraded speed cameras will have the ability to enforce in both directions of travel, thus remaining a very effective tool for regulating vehicle speeds and reducing road casualties on the highway network.
Councillor Carolyn Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Deputy Leader said: "We are pleased to have obtained this much-needed grant funding. As we know, the issue of speeding is a cause for concern amongst many of our local communities and I am confident that the proposed Camera upgrades will serve as a valuable tool in ensuring that the Council’s roads remain safe for future generations."
Teresa Ciano, GoSafe Partnership Manager added: "These systems are being introduced as part of a major investment to improve road safety in these locations.
"With the cameras going live in the very near future we hope to see more compliance with the speed limits which will make the roads safer for all who use them."
