Leader readers have shared their thoughts on whether a new school should be built in Wrexham.

Earlier this week, Wrexham Council announced that they have relaunched its consultation on plans to put a school on the Nine Acre Field, which sits off Chester Road, Westminster Drive and Rhosnesni Lane, despite it currently being used as a training ground by Wrexham Football Club.

The proposals involved building a new school for around 315 pupils, along with 45 nursery places, with St Mary’s Catholic Primary School previously informing parents that it would like to move to the site.

Here is what some of our readers had to say...

One reader, Margaret Burgess Owen, said: "No way.

"It's a bad idea on a busy main road and it's also on a street full of houses that has parking issues already.

"Use the Groves as it's a bloody eyesore."

Angela Jones echoed: "Use existing educational premises rather than closing them down to sell for development and then building on green space.

"Once all this green area has gone, it's gone for good."

However, one concerned reader, Chelle Bee, said: "I live nearby and can honestly say that this is a terrible idea.

"The traffic is already really bad on Rhosnesni Lane and Chester Road.

"When any roadworks take place on any of the connecting roads, it causes awful congestion and queues."

One disgruntled reader, Sha Parry, said: "Absolutely not, it's a terrible idea.

"Look at the space on the old Groves site, apart from it being a listed building, there is a mass of space available."

Heather Prince, said: "No use the Groves and stop wasting our money - simple.

"The road and roundabout is busy enough without adding to it.

"Groves site is far better and safer for all.

"Typical council this is."

Reader, Donna Theresa added: "Absolutely not - refurb and use the old Groves School, it’s what it’s intended for."

One frustrated reader, Jo Cupit, said: "Why get rid of a lovely green space that is used by children close to town?

"There's a massive, unused building close to there that was once a school why can’t the council utilise that?

Julie Smith added: "Absolutely not - what are they thinking?

"They should utilise what they already have."
